LONDON – Continued blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israel in defiance of international outrage got to head on Monday, when the United Kingdom, one of the strongest ally of Israel suspended new trade talks with Israel.
Prime Minister of UK, Keir Starmer on Tuesday described the suffering of the children in Gaza as utterly intolerable and called for ceasefire.
According to Starmer, the agreement between the UK and the state of Israel remains in fore but that new discussion with an an Israeli government pursuing such egregious policies in Gaza and the West Bank will not go ahead.
Speaking of the blockade, UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy said , the Israeli government has a responsibility to intervene and halt these aggressive actions and that it was impossible additional sanctions on illegal Israeli settler outposts.
” Their consistent failure to act is putting the Palestinian communities and the two state solution in peril”, Lammy said.
Meanwhile, the European Union has voted overwhelmingly to review its trade Cooperation with Israel.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said the situation in Gaza is catastrophic and that members have voted to review “Article 2 of our association with Israel”, she said and that in the meantime it is on Israel to unblock entering of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
