LONDON – Officials of the London Metropolitan police have wiped the smiles off the faces of north-west London’s criminal gangs after a week-long blitz saw 45 thugs nicked and a mountain of stolen loot recovered.
In a massive show of force, more than 50 officers descended on Kilburn High Road to reclaim the streets from drug dealers, phone thieves, and weapon-wielding yobs.
The “robust” operation saw the Met smash a major stolen tech ring, seizing a staggering 1,161 mobile phones from a single shop—double what investigators first expected. Four men were hauled away in cuffs on suspicion of handling stolen goods and drug dealing.
The crackdown wasn’t just about tech. An eagle-eyed off-duty officer spotted two men ducking into a local barbershop, leading to the seizure of two 50cm machetes.
Road safety was also top of the agenda. Police set up a “stop site” to intercept the illegal e-bikes and mopeds that have been terrorising local residents and businesses.
By the end of the week: 74 illegal vehicles were towed away.
A van linked to drug dealing was intercepted, revealing £3,000 worth of nitrous oxide canisters.
Eight lethal weapons, including knives and machetes, were taken off the streets.
Inspector Yu Zhang, who led the charge, vowed that the operation would “disrupt criminal networks” for good.
”This crackdown has seen drugs, weapons, and dangerous illegal e-bikes taken off the streets,” Zhang said. “We know these offences are ones that our communities care about… this area is undoubtedly safer.”
The results come as a major win for the Met, who reported that neighbourhood crime in the area has already plummeted by 6.4% over the last year.
Across London, the force is ramping up the pressure. In 2025 alone, officers seized over 6,600 knives and weapons—a massive 75% surge compared to the previous year.
