German and Italian reports said that Inter made this move to have some time to look for a defender elsewhere until Friday’s end of the transfer window should they not get the French international.

Pavard has a Bayern contract until 2024 but wants to leave after four years.

Inter are reportedly ready to pay €28 million ($30.3 million) plus add-ons for Pavard who had previously also been linked with Manchester United.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has said he was confident that a solution can be reached until Friday, before Inter reportedly issued the Tuesday deadline.

Should Pavard leave, Bayern would need a replacement. Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is said to be a candidate, a player Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel knows from his term as coach of the Premier League club.
