MUNICH – Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt will have to sit out for a few days after taking a knock to his knee, the Bundesliga champions said on Sunday.

The injury it’s not serious, but the player is set to miss the German Cup game at Preußen Münster on Tuesday.

“After being forced off at half-time in yesterday’s 7-0 win against VfL Bochum, Matthijs de Ligt has been given the all-clear by the FC Bayern medical department. The 24-year-old centre-back has a knock to the left knee and must only sit out for a few days,” Bayern said.

Bayern and Leipzig will play their German Cup first round matches this week as both sides played the German Supercup when the opening round took place.

Bayern visit Münster on Tuesday, while Leipzig travel to Wehen Wiesbaden on Wednesday.
