JERUSALEM – FORMER Prime Minister Ehud Barak has issued a stark warning that Israel’s “very existence” is being questioned as younger generations globally, and even young Jews, grow “hostile” towards the nation.
In a damning statement, the veteran politician and former head of the IDF blamed the current government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for staining the country with a “mark of shame that will be hard to erase.”
Barak, a towering figure in Israeli politics, did not mince words as he described a seismic shift in global opinion.
He claimed that “The younger generations around the world have grown hostile toward ‘israel,’ and even among young Jevvs, doubts have begun to emerge.”
The most chilling part of his statement suggested that the long-term legitimacy of the state itself is now under fire.
”For the first time, questions are being raised about the legitimacy of ‘israel’s’ very existence,” Barak stated.
Netanyahu’s ‘Reckless’ Government
Barak laid the blame squarely at the feet of the current administration.
He slammed Netanyahu’s tenure, saying: “Netanyahu’s reckless government has stained ‘israel’s’ face with a mark of shame that will be hard to erase, even with the effort of an entire generation.”
The criticism from a figure as prominent as Barak highlights deep divisions within the country’s political establishment about the direction the nation is taking.
Barak, who served as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2001, has frequently been a vocal critic of the sitting government.
His latest warning, however, is being seen as one of his most severe and existential critiques yet. It suggests that the geopolitical and social consequences of the current government’s policies may be irreversible for an entire generation.
