BARACK OBAMA has launched a blistering attack on Donald Trump, warning that the U.S. will be left “less safe” after his successor sensationally axed a bedrock climate rule.
The former President broke his silence after the Trump administration officially tore up the 2009 “endangerment finding”—the scientific and legal “smoking gun” used to hammer down on car and power plant pollution.
In a stinging rebuke, Obama claimed the move was a blatant gift to “wealthy corporate buddies” in the fossil fuel industry at the expense of American families.
”We’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change—all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money,” Obama fumed.
The drama unfolded at the White House on Thursday as President Trump, flanked by EPA chief Lee Zeldin, signed the order to kill off what he called the “disastrous” Obama-era policy.
Trump told reporters the move was the “biggest deregulatory action in history,” claiming it would save the U.S. economy a staggering $1.3 trillion and send car prices “tumbling down.”
”The endangerment finding and the regulations based on it didn’t just regulate emissions, it targeted the American dream,” Trump declared. “The red tape has been cut.”
What is the ‘Endangerment Finding’?
For those not in the know, the finding was the “legal engine” that allowed the government to treat CO2 and other greenhouse gases as dangerous pollutants.
By scrapping it, Trump has effectively pulled the plug on the EPA’s power to mandate green standards for:
Cars and Trucks: Scrapping fuel efficiency targets.
Power Plants: Ending limits on carbon emissions.
The ‘Green New Scam’: Removing the legal basis for future climate lockdowns.
Background: The Science vs.
The battle over the endangerment finding has been brewing since 2007, when the Supreme Court ruled the EPA could regulate greenhouse gases if they were found to be a threat. Obama’s team provided that proof in 2009, linking emissions to “deadly floods, extreme heat waves, and catastrophic wildfires.”
Critics of the move warn that by erasing the “danger” label, the U.S. is now flying blind into a climate storm.
However, Team Trump argues that the U.S. shouldn’t be “handcuffed” by rules that China and other big polluters ignore.
The legal war is far from over.
Environmental groups have already vowed to sue the administration, meaning this “climate clash” is headed straight back to the Supreme Court.
