A MOTHER and father have been charged with the murder of their three-month-old baby boy following a harrowing incident in North Finchley.
Little “Baby A” tragically passed away in hospital last Tuesday, despite the desperate efforts of doctors to save him.
The nightmare began on Friday, January 30, when police and paramedics were scrambled to a property on Kingsway at 11:34 am. They found the infant unresponsive and suffering from what have been described as “significant injuries.”
First responders performed emergency first aid at the scene before the youngster was rushed to hospital.
The parents, Dounia Chetaouat, 32, and Abdelkader Essid, 44, were initially arrested on the day of the call-out on suspicion of GBH.
However, after the baby lost his fight for life on February 17, the charges were upgraded. The pair now face counts of:
Murder
Causing or allowing the death of a child
Chetaouat, of Kingsway, and Essid, of Clandon Gardens, had previously appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on lesser charges and were remanded in custody. They are expected to face a magistrate again today, Monday, February 23, at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.
Police Appeal
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place to determine the exact cause of the infant’s death.
Detectives from the Met are still piecing together the events leading up to the tragedy. A spokesperson said:
”Detectives continue to appeal for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to call 101.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police quoting reference CAD 2297/31JAN, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
