Lagos State Government has said it will soon embark on demolition of illegal structures built on drainage channels in the state. Commissioner for Environment Mr. Tunji Bello who made the revelation today while monitoring the environmental sanitation exercise in Agboyi –Ketu Local Council Development Area said the illegal structures are blocking free flow of water in the area. ”There are many natural wetlands in the council and people have erected structures on the wetlands. Not less than 34 suspected hoodlums were arrested at the weekend by the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences as part of the continued efforts to rid the state of hoodlums. A breakdown of the figure shows that 15 were under-aged between the ages of 13 and 17 while the remaining 19 are adults. The deteriorating health condition of the former President of South Africa, Dr. Nelson Mandela has forced current President of the country, Mr. Jacob Zuma to cancel his trip to Mozambique. Mandela has been admitted in hospital since 8th June, following a complicated lung infection.
