THE HAGUE, Netherlands – The International Criminal Court, ICC is today commemorating the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation on 27 January 1945.
On the anniversary, the ICC said the court was built in memory of the terrible tragedies, including tragedy suffered by the victims of the Holocaust and in memory of millions of children, women and men who have been victims of unimaginable atrocities that shock the conscience of humanity, prior, during and after the Second World War.
“It was created for the sake of present and future generations, with jurisdiction over the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole, in order to put an end to impunity for the perpetrators of international crimes and contribute to the prevention of atrocities”, the ICC said.
On this day the Court recalls where it comes from. The Court was built in memory of terrible tragedies, including the tragedy suffered by the victims of the Holocaust and in memory of millions of children, women and men who have been victims of unimaginable atrocities that deeply shock the conscience of humanity, prior, during and after the Second World War.
It was created for the sake of present and future generations, with jurisdiction over the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole, in order to put an end to impunity for the perpetrators of international crimes and contribute to the prevention of atrocities.
Today, as every day since its creation, the Court and its officials stand firmly with the victims of atrocities in all the Situations before it, to provide all of them with the dignity, justice and hope they all equally deserve.
