ILORIN, Nigeria – Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, has stressed the need for attitudinal change on the part of Nigerians to collectively fix the nation, just as he charged them to let the fear of God be paramount in their hearts to ensure peace and stability in the country.
Alabi made the call in Ilorin, the state capital, while receiving the State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Segun Adeyemi and the Oro-Agoland Muslim Forum, led by its President, Alhaji Oba Hassan Kadiri, respectively during courtesy visits to his office by the two organisations.
While welcoming the NOA delegation, the deputy governor explained that Nigerians need total value orientation and attitudinal change especially in their behaviour, culture and character to wholistically turn around the nation. He stated that the present administration is determined to make the difference, calling on NOA and other bodies to play effective role in educating the people.
“We are determined and focused to change the culture of begging, which is rampant in the state by enlightening the people to positively move the state and the nation forward,” he added.
Alabi who described the agency as key towards liberating the minds of the people charged it to be focused and embrace social media in disseminating their messages.
The deputy governor emphasised the need to give proper education, particularly primary and secondary schools education, to the people to prepare them for the task of nation-building. He promised that the government would support the agency in the discharge of its assignment.
Earlier, Adeyemi had highlighted the functions of the agency, which include enlightening, educating, sensitising and informing the public on government programmes, activities and policies. He explained that the agency also collects and collates information for the government to make the people understand its intention.
The director said the agency is currently moving round educational institutions to stem social vices with a programme tagged, “Do the right thing: Campus focus”.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor urged the Oro-Agoland Muslim Forum to always remember God in everything they do to enhance peace and harmony in the community in particular and the state in general. According to him, “religion should not divide us as a people. We should continue to work together for the betterment of our various communities and state. Those who are playing politics with religion are not religious but are enemies of the country.”
While speaking earlier, Kadri, a veteran journalist, said that the reason for the visit was to pray for the deputy governor for a successful tenure, while also using the medium to tell him the objectives of the forum and seek his assistance for its programmes.
Kadri stated that one of the main objectives of the forum is to work for the unity and development of Oro-Ago. He said the forum organises a get-together party every year where Christians and Muslims freely interact.
Besides, he said it is also involved in empowerment for the youth and provides educational support for students in the community.
He expressed gratitude to the deputy governor for ensuring that one of their members participates in this year’s Hajj, even without knowing him, praying for the success of the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led administration.
