We cannot support a scenario where a single individual welding inordinate influence, positions himself as the sole arbiter of who rises or falls within the party. This is not party discipline – it is political capture and it is antithetical to the democratic ethos of our party, the APC

IKEJA, Lagos- Members of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in Agege and Orile Agege are furious about the outcome of the party primaries held on Saturday and have collectively rejected the results, which they described as misleading and a culmination of manipulation, exclusion and abuse of party machinery.
Addressing aggrieved party members, the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Agege and Orile-Agege categorically pointed accusing fingers at Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, whom they accused of imposing a sick and bed-ridden candidate on the party.
Speaking in behalf of the protesting members, the PCC said the outcome of the “primaries was not a reflection of due process but a culmination of manipulation, exclusion and abuse of party machinery by entrenched interest who have hijacked the local political space”.
In an address signed by Hon. Sabitu Kamorudeen, Chairman PCC(Agege) and Bamofin Adetunji Akinyemi, Spokesperson PCC(Orile-Agege), the PCC said while it acknowledges and respects the supremacy of the party directives and structure, it should however not be construed as passive endorsement of tyranny or authoritarianism cloaked as leadership.
“We cannot support a scenario where a single individual welding inordinate influence, positions himself as the sole arbiter of who rises or falls within the party. This is not party discipline – it is political capture and it is antithetical to the democratic ethos of our party, the APC”, the PCC said.
The PCC explained that for over a decade ” a carefully orchestrated structure dominated by… Mudasiru Obasa has monopolized power.
“He exercises unchecked control over local government executives and ward officers who by design form the voting delegation in primaries.
“This structure driven by fear, patronage and intimidation has effectively disenfranchised independent voices and reform minded aspirants within the party. The implication is clear – any primary process steered under such influence cannot by any objective measure produce a fair or credible outcome”, the PCC noted.
The PCC said for over 16 years, Obasa’s winner- takes-all doctrine has polarized Agege APC, eroded member morale and stifled the emergence of new leadership.
The PCC added that rather than serve as a platform for communal development and representation, the local party has become an instrument of individual ambition, noting however that they will not be forced out of the party.
The PCC called on the party leadership to act decisively.
” Hon. Obasa must be called to order”, the PCC said adding that having failed to impose his son, Obasa came through the back door to impose a sick and bed-ridden proxy adding that the development threatens to destabilize both the party and community.
