IKEJA, Lagos – The crisis rocking the All Progressive Congress, APC in Agege and Orile-Agege is not yet over and members of the party have continued to fight on in their quest for justice following the result of the APC primaries held in Lagos last month.
Members of the APC under the auspices of the Presidential Campaign Council, APC PCC in Agege and Orile-Agege today took their protest to the APC Secretariat where they presented their letter of protest/request to Executives of the party in the person of Publicity Secretary of the party, Seye Oladejo and Secretary of the party, Dr. Adeola Jokomba.
Speaking in behalf of aggrieved party members, Spokesperson of the PCC Agege/Orile-Agege, Bamofin Adetunji Akinyemi said the struggle to register their grievance started immediately after the APC primaries in Lagos where Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Obasa handpicked the sick and now bed-ridden Tunde Azeez to be the APC chairmanship candidate and made his son Vice Chairman after his son was disqualified during the APC screening exercise.
He said that Agege/Orile-Agege has two political groups, the Obasa Movement and Justice Forum which christalised into the APC PCC.
He explained that only delegates from the Obasa Movement were allowed to vote during the primaries while the other group with overwhelming membership across the local government were disenfranchised and the product turned out to be Tunde Azeez whom he said is no where to be found during and after the selection process.
He said the APC PCC has protested severally at Agege, with over 1500 members attending one of the protests during a working day but that nothing has been forth coming from the party.
He said the leadership of the APC PCC went to the Lawal Pedro Appeal Committee to seek redress but were not attended to and that they have heard of reconciliation by the party and were not sure if their concerns will be addressed hence the protest to the APC Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja.
The APC PCC gave the State Executive three days ultimatum to act on their request for the party leadership to sit with leadership of the APC PCC in Agege/ Orile-Agege to produce a consensus candidate which must be among candidates screened and approved by the screening committee.
He said Agege and Orile-Agege has four slots, two chairmen and two vice chairmanship candidates and six councillorship slots all annexed by Obasa solely and only for the Obasa Movement, leaving the APC PCC with nothing.
“For the past 16 years in Agege, the Obasa Movement has been controlling the structure, we have not been able to present our candidates. He’s not the only leader in the party. The party and Obasa chose Tunde Azeez as the Chairmanship candidate in Agege but he has not been seen in the community.
“He has been sick. We told him he can not impose such a person on us. Hon Obasa also put his son as vice chairmanship candidate so that if anything happens to the chairman, his son will take over, “Adetunji told Jokomba and Oaldejo.
The APC PCC said they are bonafide members of the party and that they will not leave the party for anybody but that they will not work for the victory of the party unless the positions are shared.
The petition of the group was received by Seye Oladejo Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, the Secretary of the party who promised to present the letter to the party leadership.
Addressing the protesters at the party’s secretariat, the APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, commended their peaceful conduct and assured them that their grievances would be thoroughly reviewed.
“We appreciate your approach and understand your frustration,” Oladejo said. “The APC belongs to all of us. The people of Lagos have trusted us with their mandate since 1999, and we must not take that for granted. We will escalate your concerns to the chairman and ensure appropriate action is taken.”
Similarly, the State Secretary of the party, Adeola Jokomba, pledged that the issues raised would be handled through dialogue, describing the situation as a family matter. “We urge you not to abandon the party. We will convey your petition to the relevant appeal committee and work towards a fair resolution.”
