AWKA, Anambra -The Anambra State Government has launched digitally identifiable, Ministry of Transport-approved reflective jackets for authorized motor park workers and commenced a pilot commercial vehicle profiling and numbering program to boost security, accountability, and order across the state’s transport sector.

Unveiling the initiatives on Friday in Awka, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, noted that the twin measures align with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision to establish a modern, secure, and technology-driven transportation system.

The approved jackets—linked to a verifiable database—will be distributed to authorized personnel across designated motor parks in the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.

”The jackets are not merely uniforms, but symbols of identity, responsibility, and official recognition,” Ibuzo said. He warned impersonators against using illegal outfits or the ministry’s name to extort motorists, clarifying that the jackets do not confer law enforcement powers or permit revenue collection outside approved legal frameworks.

Simultaneously, the state kicked off the pilot phase of its commercial vehicle digital profiling and numbering initiative. The program creates a centralized database capturing details of vehicles, operators, and approved routes to streamline traffic monitoring and route management, enhance passenger safety, and support transportation planning.

During a live demonstration at the event, ministry officials showed how members of the public and security agencies can use assigned vehicle identification numbers to verify operators or track vehicles linked to criminal activities.

Ibuzo reassured commercial drivers that the initiative is an operational identification system—not a replacement for official state vehicle registration—and will not impose unnecessary financial burdens.

”Our objective is simple: We must know who operates our commercial vehicles, where they operate, and how to ensure their safety and security,” Ibuzo stated. He urged park managers to immediately notify the ministry of any staffing changes to maintain accurate records.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, praised the ministry for translating the Executive Council’s vision into reality.

”This program is in tandem with the governance philosophy of Governor Charles Soludo and represents a significant step toward improving transport administration and public safety,” Mefor said.

The unveiling ceremony brought together key public and private park managers, transport association leaders, security agencies, and other industry stakeholders.
