AWKA, Anambra – The wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called for more empowerment for women across the country, adding that when a woman is empowered, the society is empowered and the country will be in safer hands.
Soludo, who is the founder of the ‘Healthy living with Nonye Soludo’, stated that women are truthful, anything placed in a woman hands is very safe and secured.
She stated this in her address during the 2026 Anambra Women Summit organised by the All Progressives Grand Alliance at the party’s regional office in Awka, on Friday.
The governor’s wife who spoke on the theme, ‘Empower her, elevate all’, highlighted that empowerment begins with oneself, through self-realisation and self-motivation, urging the women to acquire skills and have something doing before expecting support.
She further noted that the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been at the forefront of empowering women, adding that the current administration is about what anyone can do and not about your gender.
She said, “What we have come here to do today is to celebrate the women. Women, as I always say, are unique beings, very intelligent, strong, hard working, truthful and positive. We need to be celebrating women everyday in a special way. It is women that vote and I am sure you are proud of our state governor.
“A happy wife is a happy home, when a woman is happy, the home is at peace and the community is at peace. The current administration does not know a man or woman, the focus is about who can do the job. When we empowered women, we have empowered the society.
“As women, we must be involved in every activity of life. God has created the women in a unique way.
The responsibility God has placed on our shoulders shows that we can do it all. Women are truthful, anything placed in a woman hands is very safe.
“There are so much jobs to do at the community and for the community to be good today shows that women are vital in community development. We must pay close attention to what is happening at our homes.
“We must go back to communal living of ‘be your brothers keeper’, many things are going wrong because people are no longer their brothers keeper. Let us be our brothers keeper.
“I am also urging the women to stay focus on their responsibility at home. In all the things you do, you must take care of yourself, eat right and healthy, exercise yourself, drink water. Health is the greatest wealth. Improve on your mental health, be intentional about taking care of your health.
“We want to inclusivity, but we must be healthy, take your time to visit your neighbours that are indisposed, check on those you have not seen for a long time. We need one another to make the society a better place.”
She, however, urged the women to always be intentional about what they do, and regard every other external support that comes as an appendage, and not what they should solely rely on.
The governor’s wife, who highlighted different kinds of empowerment, to include economic empowerment, educational empowerment, health empowerment, and social empowerment, among others, presented the women with various cash sums and other empowerment materials.
“When women come together, you can influence policies, and programmes of the government. And our Governor has a listening ear and has interest in investing in anything that can help him achieve his vision for the state.
“We urged the women to always assist their fellow women, in the spirit of the APGA mantra, ‘Onye Aghana Nwanne Ya’, we advise them to always comport themselves and properly manage what they have,” she added.
Also speaking at the occasion, the CEO of Seahorse Company, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, said the aim of the summit was to empower the women and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to become self-reliant and influential leaders in the society.
Onunkwo urged the women to always be responsible people in the society, showcasing good character, and living by example.
He also encouraged them to continue supporting the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his vision in making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland.
In earlier separate remarks, the state APGA Women Leader, Esther Onyekezi, appreciated everyone who contributed to the success of the event, even as they reiterated their total solidarity with the Soludo Administration and APGA as a political party.
The highlight of the event was the APGA women from the 21 local government areas of the state participating in a March past during the event with the women from Ogbaru LGA winning the first position while Awka North LGA came second and Idemili North LGA came third.
The winners went home with various cash prizes and other gift items.
