AWKA – The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. (Mrs.) Nonye Soludo, has expressed deep concern over the brutal assault of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Jennifer Elohor, by operatives of the state’s vigilante group, Agunechemba.

Speaking to journalists in Awka on Wednesday, Dr. Soludo disclosed that she had personally contacted Miss Elohor to sympathize with her and extend an invitation to visit the Government House.

However, she noted that the corps member had travelled out of the state at the time of the call.

“I was deeply disturbed by the way that young lady was assaulted. There is absolutely no justification for such a cruel and humiliating act,”

“I have reached out to her to check on her well-being and invited her to meet with me. Unfortunately, she informed me that she is currently out of Anambra State. I asked her to contact me as soon as she returns,” she added.

Dr. Soludo further noted that Miss Elohor appreciated the gesture and was moved by the empathy and humility shown by the First Lady, assuring that she would reach out upon her return to the state.

The incident, which sparked public outrage, involved members of the Agunechemba Vigilante group reportedly invading a lodge in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, where Miss Elohor resided.

In a viral video, the operatives were seen assaulting and stripping her naked in an act that has since been condemned across all segments of society.

In response to the widespread condemnation, the Anambra State Government has handed over the implicated vigilante operatives to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

The assault has reignited calls for the disbandment or thorough reform of local security outfits in the state, with many questioning the oversight and accountability mechanisms governing their operations.
