June 5, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved an upward review of the premium payable on Life Insurance Policy for officers in the Lagos State Police Command.

Ambode who was speaking during a visit to the Lagos State Police Command said that, senior officers will henceforth receive N5 million against N3 million as Life Insurance benefit in the case of death or permanent disability.

He added that officers in the inspector cadre will now enjoy N3million instead of N2 million provided for by the previous administration while the rank and file will receive between N1.5 million and N2million.

Ambode said the rationale behind the gesture was the critical roles the police have been playing in security of lives and property as well as in the enhancement of the state economy.

“My desire to formally relate with you within one week of my assumption of office as Lagos State Governor affirms my belief in you as strategic partners and team players whose roles towards the actualization of our vision for a safer, friendlier and more secure Lagos State cannot be overemphasized.”

“As I aspire to further transform this geographical space to a sought-after destination for residents, tourists and investors across the globe, I sincerely seek the continuous support, dedication and gallantry of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force. Together, we can and I assume you will play your part with uncommon zeal and passion,” he said.

He explained that although the Federal Government through the Contributory Pensions Act has made provision for retirement, the Group Life Insurance Scheme which covers death and permanent disability is almost sixteen years but that the compensation has become grossly inadequate.

He promised to ensure that there is adequate supply of fuel at the fuel depots for police operational vehicles to ensure seamless policing of the state.
