Emmanuel Ukudolo

November 6, 2015 – The Lagos State Government has appointed a non-indigene, an Igbo, Professor Fidelis Njokanma as Acting Vice Chancellor(AVC) of Lagos State University (LASU).

He was appointed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode pending appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor( VC). His appointment takes effect from Sunday, November 1, 2015.

He is succeeding Professor John Obafunwa whose tenure was laced with rancor. Obafunwa’s tenure expired 31st October, 2015 and was not renewed.

Njokanma’s appointment was contained in letter addressed to Registrar of the school, Mr. Lewis Akinwunmi Oladapo signed by Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule.

The AVC was born October 15, 1958 in Asaba, Delta State, South South Nigeria. He attended Santa Maria Primary School, Enugu from 1964 to 1967 before moving to Local Authority Primary School, Asaba where he completed his primary education in 1970.

He was also at St Patrick College (Nnebisi) Asaba between 1971 and 1975 before he was admitted to study medicine and surgery at University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He was also at Child Health Department, University of Benin, Edo State between 1984 and 1990 for his post graduate studies.

He is a Fellow of both the West African College of Physicians and Medical College of Paediatrics. Until his appointment, he was Acting Head, Department of Child Health and Paediatrics.
