ABUJA — In a major development stirring political and legal circles ahead of the upcoming election cycle, political activist and public commentator Jude Feranmi has submitted an official petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged violent incitement.
The petition, formally delivered to the office of the Inspector General of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on August 12, 2026, was accompanied by a USB flash drive containing video evidence. According to Feranmi, the video captures Senator Fadahunsi explicitly making incendiary remarks and calling for the killing of residents in Ilesa, Osun State.
Speaking following the official submission of the petition, Feranmi revealed that his legal and advocacy team compiled the evidence to ensure the law enforcement apparatus has indisputable facts to act upon swiftly.
”My team submitted an official petition at the office of the Inspector General of Police today, 12th August 2026, together with a USB drive containing the video of Senator Fadahunsi asking that the people of Ilesa should be killed,” Feranmi stated.
He stressed that the submission goes beyond routine complaints, emphasizing that the nature of the statements captured on camera poses a direct threat to public peace, national security, and democratic governance in Osun State and across the federation.
Spotlight on IGP Disu’s Reform Agenda
The petition specifically addresses IGP Tunji Disu, noting his public track record and ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force into a responsive, law-abiding, and efficient law enforcement agency.
Feranmi acknowledged the IGP’s recent institutional reforms—pointing to visible clean-up efforts within police ranks and specific operational successes, such as recent interventions in Orile LGA—as proof of the leadership’s capacity to uphold justice.
However, Feranmi warned that failure to take decisive action against a sitting senator would severely undermine the police chief’s hard-earned reputation as a reformer.
”IGP Tunji Disu has positioned himself as a reformer of law and order in Nigeria,” Feranmi noted. “He will now be setting a dangerous precedent if he chooses to do nothing about arresting and prosecuting Senator Fadahunsi immediately, effectively telling the whole world he is not a competent law enforcer. From his recent efforts in cleaning up the police, I am certain he has the capacity.”
Alleged Violations of Electoral and Criminal Laws
The petition outlines multiple severe statutory breaches allegedly committed by the lawmaker under Nigerian jurisprudence:
Electoral Act Provisions:
Section 97: Prohibits political messages, speeches, or incitements capable of inciting violence or hatred during electoral processes.
Section 125: Outlines penalties for disorderly conduct, intimidation, and violent disruption within political constituencies.
Criminal Code Act Provisions:
Section 249: Covers conduct likely to cause a breach of the public peace.
Section 320: Relates to acts facilitating violence and attempt to murder.
Section 323: Explicitly penalizes written or verbal threats to kill any person.
Feranmi maintained that given the explicit statutory references and the video proof provided, the police have more than enough prima facie evidence to file formal charges.

Highlighting the political ramifications of the matter, Feranmi asserted that standard administrative routine—such as merely issuing an invitation to the senator to give a statement—would be insufficient given the gravity of the allegations. He called on the police to charge the lawmaker before a competent court of law to determine his guilt or innocence.
He warned that ignoring such open calls to violence by prominent political leaders creates a culture of impunity that could derail peace during the upcoming national elections.
”Nigeria should be a country governed by the rule of law,” Feranmi emphasized.
“If the Senator is not arrested and prosecuted, the Nigerian Police and the IGP will be telling everyone that they can act with impunity to go ahead and start killing their political opponents. This has major implications for the elections next year. The ball is now in your court, sir.”
