AWKA, Anambra – There is growing disaffection within the top echelon of Agunechemba, a key security outfit that has significantly contributed to the stabilization of security in Anambra State.
A source within the local security outfit, who requested anonymity for fear of victimization, called on the governor to urgently intervene and address the lingering issue of indigene–non-indigene division, which is capable of undermining the gains Agunechemba has recorded within its short period of operation in combating crime across the state.
The source alleged that the Special Adviser on Community Security to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Prince Ken Emeakayi, is responsible for fueling the growing acrimony between indigenous and non-indigenous personnel within the security outfit.
According to the source, Emeakayi is fostering division by allegedly marginalizing the Head of Operations Chief Chinenye IHENKO on the basis of non-indigenous background.
The source further pointed to what was described as a conflict between Emeakayi’s advisory role and the operational structure of the agency.
The source warned that if the lingering crisis within the organization is not urgently addressed, it could lead to disorder and disruption in the state’s security framework, thereby jeopardizing ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities.
Another insider claimed that the Special Adviser has assumed control over staffing decisions at the agency’s operational base, allegedly neglecting his primary advisory duties to the governor.
According to the source, Emeakayi is now directly assigning duties to both commanders and personnel, a development said to undermine the authority of the Head of Operations.
Sources described the situation as regrettable, especially at a time when the governor is believed to prioritize competence over state of origin.
Further investigations revealed further allegations that the Special Adviser deliberately withheld funds required for the effective operation of the Agunechemba unit.
It was also alleged that the Lion Building is now being used primarily as a detention facility where suspects are held, with the Head of Operations reportedly reduced to a mere custodian of detainees.
When contacted, the spokesperson of Agunechemba, Comrade Nweke Nweke, said he was not aware of any such development regarding discrimination against non-indigenes.
He strongly refuted the allegations leveled against the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, insisting that there is no discrimination within Agunechemba.
According to him, the perceived issues stem from internal tensions among some leaders within the organization rather than any systemic bias.
Nweke cautioned those spreading what he described as unfounded rumors to desist, warning that there would be consequences for anyone attempting to incite discord where none exists.
