ABUJA, Nigeria – Organised labour has suspended planned nationwide strike to press home demands for a new minimum wage. Labour had agreed to a minimum wage of N30,000, but the Federal Government proposed N24,000 while state government are proposing less than that amount.

National Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress,(NLC) Ayuba Wabba, who announced the suspension at the end of the meeting of the tripartite committee on the new minimum wage late on Monday did not comment on the amount that has been agreed as minimum wage.

Wabba said the decision to suspend the strike was taken after agreements were reached and documents signed. He said the report will be submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari who will hopefully sign the document.

So far no agreement has been reached.
