UMUAHIA, Abia – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) gubernatorial candidate in Abia State,  Prof Gregory Ibe has given assurance that he will build and equip general hospitals in the 17 Local Government Councils of the state if elected in  2023.

Ibe gave the assurance while answering question on a radio programme monitored in Umuahia recently.

According to him, building and equipping general hospital in each of the local in the state will  stimulate the secondary health sector, thereby  bringing healthcare  service closer  to the people. He also revealed his plans to rebuild and restore the glory of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Aba if elected.

He however decried  apparent abandonment of ABSUTH by government thereby leading to the  eventual collapse of the institution.

” I am particularly pained by government’s outright abandonment of ABSUTH, the only tertiary health institution we have in the state. How can you refuse to pay workers salaries for more than 20 months and still expect the hospital to function maximally?

“Well, Abians shouldn’t worry since I have concluded plans to rebuild and restore the glory of ABSUTH if elected governor in 2023. Remember that my company Skill G Ltd. designed and built that hospital almost 20 years ago, so rebuilding it will not be difficult” he said.

According to  the APGA governorship candidate he will leverage on the data collated from the just concluded Prof Gregory Ibe Free Medical and Surgical Outreach in ensuring the provision of unique health solutions to specific groups and communities in the state.

“Arising from the free medical outreach, our team of medical personnel were able to identify diseases that are peculiar to specific areas of the state. Subsequently, we intend to leverage on our  medical team’s   findings in packaging and dispatching to specific communities  those medical solutions that are relevant to the people of the area”.

Recall  that Prof Ibe recently sponsored the treatment of more than 12,000 patients across the communities in the state through his  medical and surgical outreach that deployed an itinerant team of 62 medical personnel.

They visited all the communities in 16 Local Government Councils of Abia providing medical solutions freely to the people.
