PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is renewing its focus on high standards of conduct and service delivery, as its top management reaffirmed a commitment to “excellence and integrity” during a recent staff training program.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the NDDC, declared the commission’s dedication to delivering superior services and ensuring “a dignified engagement” with stakeholders across the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
The statement was made during a three-day Protocol and Protection Bootcamp organized for staff of the Corporate Affairs Department in Port Harcourt.
Speaking through the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that the training was crucial for enhancing staff capacity to deliver excellent services and uphold the commission’s dignity.
The training’s mandate, he reminded participants, was not only to bolster knowledge but also to strengthen a collective understanding of diplomatic protocol, security awareness, and the essential standards of public service decorum.
The NDDC boss urged attendees to utilize the training to effectively represent the commission.
Expert speakers at the event underscored the importance of professional conduct in public service. Dr. Emmanuel Metuaghan, the keynote speaker, highlighted protocol’s role in defining organizational values, promoting international best practices, and enhancing partnerships.
He stressed the need for protocol officers to be dedicated and detail-oriented, noting that the NDDC has successfully built institutional trust in recent times.
Similarly, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Ambassador Lawrence Obisakin, described protocol as the correct order of procedures, essential for ensuring orderliness, promoting efficiency, and upholding the dignity of office. He concluded with a sharp advisory on personal presentation, stating, “How you dress is how you will be addressed.”
