ABUJA, Nigeria – A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja has ordered former governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Murtala Nyako to enter his defence in the N29 billion fraud case brought against him and his son by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Nyako and his son had through his counsel filed for no-case submission. Ruling on the matter, Justice Okon Abang dismissed Nyako’s no-case submission and urged him and his son to enter defence.
The EFCC is prosecuting the former governor and his son Abdulaziz and two companies on a 37-count charge of money laundering, criminal conspiracy, stealing and abuse of office.
The EFCC had during the trial called 21 witnesses to establish its claims against the former Governor and the co-defendants.
But Nyako’s lawyer had said in court that all the 21 witnesses called by the prosecution could not provide a single shred of evidence that suggested even remotely that a case had been made out against them.
