WASHINGTON, U.S – President Donald Trump of the United States was on Wednesday acquitted of impeachment charges by the Senate.

The Senate acquitted Trump through a vote of 52-48 against conviction on abuse of power and 53-47 on obstruction of justice charge. The senate also failed to secure 2/3 of 67 vote super majority needed to convict and remove the President.

Republican Senator, Mitt Romney(Utah) however voted for impeachment of the President in what is expected to trigger a backlash from Donald Trump.

Speaking on the consequence of his action, Mitt Romney said he voted based on his conscience, adding that as a Christian he was thought to stay by the truth and let the consequences follow.

Already President Donald Trump has described Mitt Romney as a traitor.

Meanwhile the failed impeachment saga has generated reactions from various walks of life.

For Ivanka Trump, “This factional fever and incoherent, ill-conceived process has finally ended and the President has rightfully been acquitted. It is time for our Country to move forward. Together”, she said.

Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham issued the following statement in part:

The Senate voted to reject the baseless articles of impeachment, and only the President’s political opponents—all Democrats, and one failed Republican presidential candidate—voted for the manufactured impeachment articles.

In what has now become a consistent tradition for Democrats, this was yet another witch-hunt that deprived the President of his due process rights and was based on a series of lies . . . Throughout this wholly corrupt process, President Trump successfully advanced the interests of the United States and remained focused on the issues that matter to Americans.

“He spent his time achieving real victories for the people of this country, and the Democrats—once again—have nothing to show for their fraudulent schemes.
