Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, others at the inaugural June 12 celebration in pictures
ABUJA, Nigeria – National leader of the All Progressive Congress(APC) , Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Edo State Governor, Mr. Gaius Obaseki, Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu-Ale, Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun were among the dignitaries that graced the inaugural edition of June 12 celebration, which has been legalised as Democracy Day, courtesy, President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Muhammadu Buhari signed the June 12 Democracy Day bill into law few days ago and in the process making June 12 Democracy Day and a public holiday in Nigeria. May 29 every year according to President Buhari will continue to remain as the day for swearing in elected governors and president but will continue to be a working day.
Buhari, of military extraction made history as the only Nigerian president to honour Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12 1993 election. Two former presidents, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and Dr. Goodluck EbeleJonathan had the opportunity but they failed to make use of it.
For doing this, Buhari has warmed himself into the heart of the Abiola family. As Hafsat Abiola puts it, it is preposterous that it is Muhammadu Buhari that honoured her father despite what existed between her later father and the President.
Others at the events are former governors, business magnates, Aliko Dangote, and the family of Abiola family.
