Update: Over 22 people rescued from collapsed building at Ita-Faaji, Lagos Island
LAGOS, Nigeria – At least 22 people have been rescued alive from the site of collapsed 3 storey building at Ita-Faaji area of Lagos Island. The building situated at 36 Massey Street, on the Island has a private school on the top floor with residents on the first two floors.
We gathered that among those rescued so far are 12 pupils of the school and other adults. Speaking on the incident, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA), Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said the incident occurred at about 10.30 am.
He said search and rescue operation is presently ongoing with so many victims rescued alive from the collapsed building through combined efforts of LASEMA and other emergency responders such as the Lagos State Ambulance Service, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Federal Fire Service.
Others includes National Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Police Force, Rapid Response Squad, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Nigeria Red Cross Society, Lagos State Neighborhood and Safety Corps.
He said the exercise is being coordinated by the General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu with the deployment of heavy and light rescue equipment from LASEMA and its stakeholders.
