ABUJA, Nigeria – Sir Ahmadu Bello Youth Council of Nigeria (ABYCN) has presented the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Mr. Ahmed Lawan Kuru with the prestigious Sir Ahmadu Bello Gamji Award of Excellence 2019. Comrade Sagir Adam, who led a 7-man ABYCN executives to AMCON’s Abuja office said, the AMCON CEO was chosen for the honour because he represented the “Epitome of humanitarian service and exemplary leadership” in the society.

Speaking at the presentation, which was received on his behalf by the duo of Mrs. Iyatum Adode-Kobiti, Group Head, Corporate Services and Mr. Jude Nwauzor, AMCON’s Head, Corporate Communications, Comrade Sagir said Kuru deserved to be celebrated because ABYCN took a rigorous but holistic appraisal of his exceptional track record of performances before deciding to bestow him with the honour.

He said ABYCN considered different aspects of Kuru’s professional and social make up including his leadership qualities; his dedication to duty without fear or favour at AMCON; his passion to entrench good corporate governance at key institutions in the country; attention to details; involvement in the promotion of youth welfare and his commitment toward the growth of the Nigerian economy and humanity in general among others and found him a thorough-bred individual.

He said, “When his name appeared before the ABYCN, we have a number of things we consider before we arrive at our decision to honour any personality. I stand here today to let you know that when we ran our checks and evaluations on the personality of Mr. Kuru, his achievements and track record spoke for itself. We found him worthy of emulation and qualified for the ABYCN honour.”

Aside what he described as the wonderful but challenging work Kuru had done since assuming office as AMCON boss, he ABYCN admires his benevolent, selfless service and contribution to humanity, societal transformation and educational development, amongst other enviable characteristics.

He said ABYCN is particularly impressed because Kuru has constantly, fearlessly and judiciously remained focused towards debt recovery from some high-profile recalcitrant debtors of the Corporation who hitherto were difficult to tame.

This goes to show that Kuru means well for the growth of the Nigeria economy, he detests corruption and manipulation; he is keen in meeting the mandate, which Nigerians gave to AMCON, which is to recover these humongous debts from the obligors and that as far as AVBYC is concerned is fighting corruption in all ramifications.

“For these reasons and as is tradition with ABYCN, we have by this honour also promoted him to the rank of a 5-star Aluta General. Within the rank and file of ABYCN, he is henceforth Comr. General Ahmed Lawan Kuru.”

The ABYCN recognition is the second time the AMCON boss would be honoured within the second month of the year. Earlier in January, he received the Businessday Excellence In Public Service Awards 2018. The award, which he received at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja was presented to him for distinguishing himself in the performance of his duties in 2018.
