LAGOS, Nigeria – Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Mr. Jimi Agbaje has mocked the All Progressive Congress(APC) for allowing Lagos State with all its resources to sink to 138 out 140 cities in terms of standard of living around the world.

Quoting the Economist Intelligence Units Liveability rating (that collects data across five main categories: Stability, Culture & Environment, Healthcare, Education and Infrastructure) of 2018, he said Lagos ranked 138th out of 140 urban cities in the world in terms of the standard of living of its citizens.

“Essentially, Lagos comes in 3rd from the bottom – only ahead of Dhaka, Bangladesh and war-torn Damascus, Syria. That my friends is completely unacceptable — in every sense of the word”, he said, adding “when next the ruling party spews their stale rhetoric about “Lagos is working” let them know that the game is up and that the people of Lagos will no longer be fooled by the APC – who clearly are at their wits’ end when it comes to moving this state forward”, he said.

Agbaje said the development is unacceptable to the hardworking man or woman struggling to make ends meet. “It is unacceptable to taxpayers who do everything in their power to meet their obligations with the hope that the government does the same. It’s unacceptable to a generation of Nigerians who have chosen to believe in this country even when sometimes it seems that that country struggles to believe in itself”, he noted.

He urged residents of the state to reverse this course by ‘not putting the car keys of Lagos back in the hands of the same people who drove it into the ditch in the first place’.

He argued that to get Lagos working for the ordinary man and woman, his plan as Governor is to achieve a ‘Liveability Index of 65% in my first 2 years – making Lagos a top 100 most liveable cities in the world and a 75% Liveability Index in 4 years. We achieve this by investing heavily in Education (especially basic education), Infrastructure and healthcare”, he said.

He said it’s never enough to beat ”our chest about the revenue gains of Lagos without looking at human development. What’s the point of having a rich dad who doesn’t even know that you exist. Our wealth must reflect in the lives of our people and I intend to ensure that this is a reality as Governor”, he said.
