The independent Electoral Commissioner (INEC) has fixed November 30th for supplementary elections in Anambra State. INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega made the revelation while speaking at a press conference on Friday evening in Abuja.

He announced that the commission has examined the complains of Nigerians and candidates that took part in the election, stressing that there was no sufficient evidence to warrant outright cancellation of the November 16 general elections in Anambra.

Jega said that it is only one voter register that was used for the election adding that the only different between the first and the last one placed at the polling booths was adjustment in age.

On allegations that an individual who voted in Idemili North in the last election and could not find his name in the November 16, election, Jega said, that there was evidence that his name appeared in addendum register (temporary) but not in the permanent electronic register used by INEC during the election. He said that the fellow failed to make use of the ongoing electronic registration to ensure that his details were captured in the permanent electronic register adding that INEC met with candidates prior to election that addendum register will not be used.

He attributed inherent flaws in Idemili North election to officials of the commission, stressing that those found to have gone against the law have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation and prosecution. He however apologised to Nigerians adding that INEC wanted Anambra election to be the best and promised that the commission is committed to good electoral practice and to make the 2015 election the best in Nigeria’s history.
