Former publicity secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Mr. Joe Igbokwe has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will no longer be able to say that the party will rule
IGBOKWE: “PDP WILL NOT SAY THEY WILL RULE NIGERIA FOR 60 YEARS AGAIN”
Nigeria for 60 years without performance with the emergence of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Igbokwe who spoke in Lagos said PDP will now be very cautious of who is coming behind each time it takes a step, stressing that the APC will no doubt produce the next president of Nigeria in 2015.
“Over the years, PDP said they will rule Nigeria for 60 years, I am sure they are not going to say it again. You can’t say you will rule Nigeria for 60 years without performance, they can’t say it again with
the emergence of APC. If they are running now, they will be looking at their back. I can assure you that we will produce the next president
in 2015”, he said.
The former Lagos scribe of ACN explained that the short time left is not an issue since anything can happen within 24 hours in politics.
“You are going to see massive movement into the party because nobody will have excuse for not joining us to rescue Nigeria. We want to show the difference between light and darkness, between good and bad, between performance and non performance, between those who know and those who don’t know”, he said, adding that there is no reason why Nigeria should be in difficulty given the resources at its disposal, both human and material resources.
“We just need a driver. Nigeria is a functional vehicle without a driver. There is no way that vehicle can move. Nobody should aspire to be in any office if you cannot add value to that office. Over the past 16 years we have seen the PDP with a lot of money in 16 years yet there is nothing on the ground”, he said adding that the amount of money Nigeria has made in the last 16 years was not been made between 1960 and 1990.
“We never seen that kind of money, showing that if you have a mediocre in position even if you give him all the money in the world, he would not know what to do with it because he does not know what to do with it”, Igbokwe said adding that there is the hand of God in what is happening.
“Our people have cried enough, we must give leadership, because we must have something to give to the coming generation because in the next 20 years we may not have oil. We must use what we have now. I hope that Nigerians will not miss this opportunity”, he said adding that no luck can help anybody. “Luck cannot help you when you assume leadership of the country, you must have the initiative. You must know what you are doing. If you must go to driving school before you drive, you must go to leadership school before you lead. For the first time let us start with someone who can really drive not a conductor”, Igbokwe said, stressing that lack of internal democracy will not be an albatross for success of APC.
“That is our method, it is our system, it is our process, we pick the best and we have been succeeding, so what is it, picking a candidate is not winning elections, you have to pick a candidate that will win the election. That has been our method, we fear that if you make it open those who have money will use money to win and they may not deliver, so we look for the best”, he said.
