Port Harcourt, Oct 6, 2016 – Rivers United centre half, Sope Hameed has urged his side to emulate the example of seven-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba International in next season’s Caf Champions League.
HAMMED URGES RIVERS UNITED TO EMULATE ENYIMBA
United qualified for the 2017 edition of Africa’s Premier club competition after finishing second in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last season.
Hameed says players and officials of Rivers United must now look to impress on the continent despite the unheralded nature of the club.
“No one has heard about Rivers United on the continent but a few years ago, that was the case with (two-time African champions) Enyimba.
“With hard work, focus and early determination, we can achieve what Enyimba did some years ago in the Caf Champions League.
“A lot of people felt we would be relegated when the season started but we knew what we were about and kept our eyes on the prize,” he told Rivers United Media. Rivers United finished as runners up in the NPFL with 60 points from 36 matches.
