Nigeria, April 14, 2016 – A civil society group under the aegis of Civil Society Group for Good Governance (CSGGG) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the acting executive chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIRS), Mr. Tunde Fowler on account of his poor leadership style, outright disregard for the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria and taking undue advantage of his position to marginalize certain regions of the nation.
GROUP CALLS FOR SACK OF TUNDE FOWLER, FIRS BOSS
The group made this known in a press statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Comrade Austine Osijale and made available to newsmen in the nation’s capital.
“We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari as a matter of urgency to sack the acting chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service; Mr.Tunde Fowler on grounds of administrative incompetence, disregard for public service rules and outright marginalization of some component federating units.
“The recent fall of over two trillion naira in the revenue generated by FIRS, the employment of over two hundred persons mostly candidates of All Progressive Congress chieftains without following public service rules and the recent employment of five directors without recourse to federal character are some of the reasons amongst other why we are calling on Mr. President to disengage the service of Mr. Fowler before he commits more damage to the system.”
The statement further added that if necessary steps are not taken to address this issues, the group which is an umbrella body of over 200 civil society organization has no choice than to mobilize itself for a mass protest as the destiny of most Nigerians are hanging on the performance of the service especially at a time when the need to focus on generating more revenue through a credible tax system to salvage the economy given the falling oil prices.
