November 12, 2015 – The Lagos State Government says it has concluded plans to airlift first out of the three batches of the 2015 intending christian pilgrims to Jerusalem and Rome on Friday .
LAGOS BEGINS AIRLIFTING PILGRIMS ON FRIDAY
Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef made this disclosure during an orientation service for intending pilgrims at the Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa.
He said that government’s participation in pilgrimage does not mean that government is the one performing or sponsoring the pilgrims but that government serves as a coordinating body for the exercise in ensuring the overall safety of the pilgrims which he said is the essence of government.
He added that the government of Israel who plays host to pilgrims from across the world every year does not relate with any pilgrim as an individual but as a country, hence the need for the pilgrims to be better organised and well coordinated by the government.
He used the occasion to allay fears of unrest in Israel, assuring that government will not embark on a journey to a place where the lives of its citizens will be endangered.
The commissioner said that government expects that every religious organisation should be spiritually rejuvenated and act as development partners with the state government in ensuring the realization of its plans, programmes and policies for citizens.
Exhorting the intending pilgrims, Rt. Rev. Dr. A. Adetubo noted that prayer remains the fundamental reason for the holy journey which according to him is in tandem with the scriptural provision in the book of Zechariah 8:22..
