October 29, 2015 – The Senate was today thrown into rowdy session over confirmation of former governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaehi as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Senate Committee on Ethics had refused to approve the nomination of former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and requested President Muhammadu Buhari to forward a replacement for Amaechi.
The committee had based its decision on the fact that the matter involving Amaechi is still in court since Amaechi had appealed judgement of the Rivers State High Court, which ruled in favour of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry which indicted him.
But during debate, the PDP senators, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio walked out of the Senate paving the way for the senators to approve Amaechi.
