UBA emerges Corporate Organisation With Best Nurtured Trees
July 14, 2015 – United Bank for Africa today emerged Corporate Organisation With the Best Nurtured Trees in Lagos State. The bank was conferred with the award at the 2015 Tree Planting Campaign, held at Idimu, Lagos with the theme, “Tree, the lungs of the earth”.
UBA is an environment-friendly bank which has taken the lead, in nurturing and maintaining parks and gardens in Lagos and wherever it operates as part of its corporate social responsibility, CRS.
UBA has for years maintained parks in Marina, Falamo and other areas. UBA was however not the only corporate organisation that won award at the event.
Elizade Motors Nigeria Ltd., also emerged industry with Best Nurtured Trees, while Shodex emerged the Best Horticulturalist in sponsoring tree planting campaign. Federal Technical College, Akoka was crowned Tertiary Institution with the Best Nurtured Trees.
Peninsula Flower Garden was named the best maintained and beautified park in Lagos while Itele Agbaku Ikorodu CDA emerged Best CDA in Tree Planting Programme.
In the military circle, Ojo Military Cantonment was crowned Best Military Formation in Tree Planting Programme. In the school category, Angus Memorial Senior High School, Somolu emerged first in the Me and My Tree Planting Programme, Aje Comprehensive High School, Sabo Yaba came second while Morocco Comprehensive Junior High School, Somolu came third.
In the motor park category, Obanikoro Taxi Park emerged the best park/garage with Best Nurtured Trees.
In the individual category, Adenuga Peter of Baptist Junior High School, Obanikoro came first in Student with the Best Nurtured Tree category, Edidion Enefion from Obele Community Junior High School, Surulere came second while Alabi Muktar from Ansarudeen Senior Secondary School, Badagry came third.
In the teacher’s category, Mr. Adebua Adedeji from Angus Memorial Senior High School, Somolu came first, Mrs. Sule from Aje Comprehensive Junior High School, Yaba was second while Mr. Ogunlade Olufemi from Morocco Comprehensive Junior High School, Somolu came third.
In the Education District category, the best district desk officer in Me and My Tree programme went to Mrs. Olawuni from Education District IV, while District II emerged Education District in the Me and My Tree Planting programme, with Mrs. Solarin Titilayo Margaret as winner, while Mr. Jayeola emerged Best Local Government Tree Planting Desk Officer.
Speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode called on Nigerians to guard against the habit of felling tree, stressing that the habit is dangerous to the environment.
Highlight of the day was tree planting exercise led by the governor at Government Technical College, Ikotun, Lagos.
