PORT HARCOURT, Rivers – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has officially thrown open its application portal, inviting suitably qualified indigenes of the Niger Delta region to apply for its 2026/2027 Local Post-Graduate (Master’s Degree) Scholarship Programme.
The intervention initiative aims to equip local talents with advanced academic and professional qualifications in recognized Nigerian tertiary institutions, thereby strengthening human capacity development across the oil-rich region.
According to an official announcement issued by the Commission, interested candidates are advised to visit the official NDDC portal (nddc.gov.ng) to review complete eligibility criteria, course requirements, and submission procedures. The management specified that the online submission window will close on November 8, 2026.
In a bid to safeguard applicants from fraudsters, the NDDC emphasized that the application process is strictly FREE OF CHARGE. The agency strongly advised candidates to apply early and communicate exclusively through the Commission’s official verified platforms and website.
Background and Strategic Importance
The Local Post-Graduate Scholarship Scheme remains a cornerstone of the NDDC’s human development strategy. Established to address educational imbalances and bridge skill gaps in technical fields, the scholarship program traditionally focuses on critical disciplines such as Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geosciences, Information Technology, Law, Agricultural Sciences, and Medical Sciences.
While the Commission’s foreign scholarship arm caters to international study, the local scholarship scheme is deliberately designed to fund scholars inside Nigeria, reinforcing domestic universities and conserving foreign exchange.
Under its current administrative trajectory—reflected in its campaign slogans #Beyond25, #TellingOurStory, and #Transition2Transformation—the NDDC is repositioning its focus toward sustainable youth empowerment, shifting from short-term relief measures to long-term intellectual and professional capacity building.
Over the past decade, thousands of beneficiaries of the NDDC scholarship schemes have gone on to hold prominent roles in the global energy sector, public governance, environmental management, and academia.
Application Guidelines for Candidates
Prospective applicants are advised to prepare all essential credentials prior to commencing their online registration. Standard requirements typically include:
Proof of indigeneship from a recognized Local Government Area in the Niger Delta state of origin.
First-degree certificate or statement of result with an acceptable grade point average (GPA).
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.
Admission letter into a recognized local post-graduate program (where applicable).
Applicants are urged to complete their forms well before the November 8, 2026 deadline to prevent technical delays caused by last-minute portal congestion.
