OSOGBO— The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has strongly condemned the sudden arrest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, describing the action as a barbaric and vicious attack on free will, democratic principles, and the rule of law.
In a swift reaction issued on Saturday by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke called for the immediate and unconditional release of Hon. Bisi and other political detainees across Osun State, warning that state security machinery must not be weaponized to suppress the popular mandate of the electorate.
Mysterious Arrest at Ilesa Residence
According to official details released by the Governor’s office, Hon. Sunday Bisi was accosted by security personnel at his private residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from casting his vote in the ongoing election.
He was subsequently whisked away to an undisclosed location without any official charges or formal reason communicated to his family, party representatives, or legal team.
Governor Adeleke expressed deep outrage over the secretive nature of the abduction, maintaining that the arrest was orchestrated to destabilize the ruling party’s monitoring apparatus at crucial election stages.
”Information reaching me indicates that Hon. Bisi was accosted in his home in Ilesa shortly after he returned after voting, and whisked away to a yet-to-be-known location. Up till this moment, no one has been availed the reason for his arrest,” Governor Adeleke stated via his spokesperson.
The Governor raised an alarm, alleging that the arrest of the PDP chairman is part of a coordinated and sinister plot by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in collusion with compromised security agents.
Adeleke alleged that the ultimate aim of the sweep is to intimidate PDP representatives, keep voters and monitors away from various collation centres, and pave the way for manipulating election results.
”This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” Adeleke asserted.
“This is the biggest assault on democracy, and I urge everyone involved in this desperate attempt to upturn the will of our people to desist from using state institutions.”
Reiterating the essence of popular suffrage, the Governor emphasized that elections must remain a peaceful exercise where citizens freely give their mandates to candidates of their choice without fear, coercion, or state-sponsored intimidation.
The arrest of Hon. Sunday Bisi marks a volatile escalation in the political rivalry between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
Hon. Sunday Bisi, a seasoned political organizer and grassroots leader who assumed the state chairmanship of the Osun PDP in 2023, has been a key architect in consolidating Governor Adeleke’s administration and maintaining party discipline across the state’s 30 local government areas.
The state political climate has remained highly charged heading into the August 15 governorship poll, characterized by intense rivalries, accusations of partisan policing, and claims of voter suppression.
Prior to the election, the Osun State Government had repeatedly raised alarms over alleged plots by opposition elements to deploy rogue security operations and intimidate key government and party figures.
The sudden detention of the state’s ruling party chairman at his home town in Ilesa—a critical political battleground—has heightened anxieties across collation centers in Osun, prompting calls from civic organizations and political observers for maximum transparency and strict neutrality from security agencies.
