SPANISH PM Pedro Sanchez has launched a blistering attack on Israel, condemning a controversial move to approve the death penalty for Palestinians.
In a move set to ignite a fresh diplomatic firestorm, the Spanish leader branded the proposal “asymmetrical” and “deeply unjust.”
Speaking from Madrid, Sanchez did not hold back, suggesting the law is designed to target one side of the conflict while shielding the other.
”This is an asymmetrical measure that would not be applied to Israelis who committed the same offenses,” Sanchez declared.
The Spanish PM argued that the legal double standard undermines international justice and further de-escalates hopes for peace in the region.
Sanchez has long been one of the most vocal critics of Israeli military and legal policy within the European Union. His latest comments come as Israel’s governing coalition pushes forward with hardline security measures.
Supporters of the bill in Israel argue it is a necessary deterrent against terrorism. However, Sanchez’s intervention highlights a growing rift between Jerusalem and European capitals.
Critics of the PM at home have accused him of overstepping, but Sanchez remains firm, insisting that “human rights must apply equally to all, regardless of nationality.”
