ABIA STATE – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its dedication to scaling up interventions across the region, aiming to tackle economic hardship and foster sustainable development at the grassroots level.
Speaking at a special presentation of relief materials to the Omuma-Uzor community in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized that the Commission is focused on initiatives that directly improve the lives of everyday citizens.
Representing the Managing Director, the NDDC Director II for Education, Health, and Social Services, Engr. Jeremiah Oritsejolone, noted that the current economic climate has placed immense pressure on rural households.
”The NDDC remains committed to expanding interventions that empower individuals, strengthen livelihoods and promote inclusive development,” Ogbuku stated.
“This event reinforces a fundamental principle that governance must be people-centred, responsive and compassionate.”
The Commission urged beneficiaries to use the provided items responsibly to ensure long-term benefits for their families.
Beyond the distribution of aid, the NDDC leadership underscored the vital link between regional stability and progress. Dr Ogbuku called on host communities to maintain peace and cooperate with government agencies to ensure development projects can be executed effectively.
Supporting this sentiment, Dr Anderson Ukeh, the NDDC Director for the Abia State office (represented by Mrs Ijeoma Offor), advised residents to remain law-abiding and dedicated to the growth of their community.
Similarly, Dr Chioma Nwakwue, Deputy Director of Education, Health and Social Services, praised the community for their support and urged them to handle the distribution process with a spirit of “peace and love.”
The intervention was met with high praise from local leaders. Elder Felix Nwogu, Chairman of the Omuma-Uzor community, expressed his profound gratitude to the Commission for answering their call for help.
”We are truly grateful to the NDDC for this laudable intervention,” Nwogu said, noting that the relief would go a long way in easing the burdens faced by his people.
As the NDDC continues its mission under Dr Ogbuku’s leadership, the Commission remains steadfast in its promise to ensure that no corner of the Niger Delta is left behind in the journey toward prosperity.
