LAGOS – Interswitch, one of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce companies, recently hosted its Coded Meetup in Lagos, a strategic effort to foster engineering excellence and community-driven innovation within the continent’s rapidly expanding technology ecosystem.
Held at the Interswitch Innovation Hub, the event, organized through the Interswitch Developer Community, brought together a diverse group of developers, engineers, and tech enthusiasts from across Africa. It was designed to transition collaboration beyond online forums, creating a physical space for networking, knowledge-sharing, and mentorship.
The initiative underscores Interswitch’s belief that local expertise is key to developing scalable solutions for African challenges. Muyiwa Asagba, Managing Director of Commercial Inclusion (Interswitch Inclusio), emphasized this point, stating: “At Interswitch, we’ve always believed that Africans should solve Africa’s problems… Solving these problems requires more than just talent; it takes the right motivation, mentorship, and community.”
The evening featured two engaging panel sessions where industry leaders discussed critical technology trends, including distributed systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and scalable solution design. Discussions also focused on practical career development, covering the importance of ethical AI use and how mentorship can help developers future-proof their careers in a volatile digital landscape.
”That is why we created the Interswitch Developer Community, to empower developers with the right skills, knowledge, and connections they need to build solutions that truly make a difference. When we invest in people, we invest in Africa’s future,” Asagba added.
Beyond the technical deep-dives, the Coded Meetup provided a vital networking platform, allowing attendees to connect with peers and experienced mentors. This blending of structured learning and informal interaction is central to the Developer Community’s mission to nurture Africa’s tech talent pool.
Through ongoing capacity-building activities like the Coded Meetup, Interswitch is actively reinforcing its role as a catalyst for innovation, driving inclusion and knowledge sharing across Africa’s technology and burgeoning fintech sectors. The sustained focus on developer empowerment is a clear indicator of Interswitch’s strategy to maintain a leadership position by cultivating a strong, local tech foundation.
