MOSCOW, Russia – A SICKENING assassination plot targeting Editor-In-Chief of RT, Margarita Simonyan, has been foiled by investigators, it was revealed today.
A member of a far-right, National Socialism/White Power group allegedly agreed to track the editor-in-chief of state broadcaster RT and kill her for a $50,000 (£40,000) fee.
The sensational details emerged after a wide-ranging probe into the chilling attempt was completed by Russian authorities.
The suspects involved in the conspiracy have now been detained and are being held in custody as they await trial.
The plot was designed to silence one of the most visible and vocal supporters of the Kremlin’s war effort.
Kremlin Mouthpiece
Simonyan, 45, is one of Vladimir Putin’s most important media figures, running the highly controversial, state-funded media network RT (formerly Russia Today).
The network is widely regarded in the West as a key tool of Russian foreign influence, routinely described as a propaganda arm of the Kremlin.
Simonyan has been personally sanctioned by the UK government for her role in spreading disinformation and promoting the war in Ukraine.
RT itself reported that the foiled plot involved a suspect who was tasked with shadowing the powerful editor before carrying out the brutal assassination for the massive fee.
The successful bust comes after a prolonged investigation, with the authorities moving quickly to take the alleged white supremacist hitman off the streets.
The suspects are now facing serious charges linked to the attempted murder and domestic terrorism.
