TEL AVIV – Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed regrets following the killing of five journalists at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza following two bombardments in quick succession by the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF.
In a statement, Netanyahu said “Israel deeply regrets the tragic mishap that occurred today at Nasser Hospital in Gaza”, he said adding “Israel values the work of journalists, medical staff, and all civilians”.
The OIC asserts that this heinous crime is not the first of its kind, rather part of a series of systematic violations by Israel, the occupation force, against media outlets and hospitals as well as their personnel on the occupied Palestinian territory, in a bid to muzzle the truth and gloss over the crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing and displacement so as to keep the world public opinion in the dark -OIC
He said the military authorities are conducting a thorough investigation.
“Our war is with Hamas terrorists. Our just goals are defeating Hamas and bringing our hostages home”, he said.
Netanyahu spoke just as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, OIC knocked Israel for the bombing and expansion of the killings and destruction in Gaza.
In a statement, the OIC said it condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation’s bombing of the Nasser Hospital in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing of 20 civilians, mostly health care personnel and media professionals.
“The OIC asserts that this heinous crime is not the first of its kind, rather part of a series of systematic violations by Israel, the occupation force, against media outlets and hospitals as well as their personnel on the occupied Palestinian territory, in a bid to muzzle the truth and gloss over the crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing and displacement so as to keep the world public opinion in the dark”, the OIC said.
The OIC noted that it holds Israel, the occupation force, fully responsible for this egregious crime, which requires investigation and accountability.
It called on the concerned international organizations to take immediate actions to put an end to the deliberate and systematic targeting of journalists, media professionals, and healthcare personnel in the occupied Palestinian territory and provide them with protection pursuant to the international humanitarian law and relevant international conventions.
The OIC reiterated its call on the international community, notably the Security Council, to urgently step in to impose a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of medical, relief, humanitarian, and basic need assistance to the Gaza Strip.
