GAZA, Palestine – The Islamic Resistant Movement in Gaza, Hamas has said it is studying the proposal on ceasefire submitted by Ambassador Steve Witkoff, US Special Envoy to the Middle East.
In a statement, Hamas Spokesman, Jihad Taha said it is also meeting with Resistant factions in the Gaza Strip to harmonise position on the US proposal for ceasefire.
Under the proposal, there will be a 60 days ceasefire, while President Donald Trump will guarantee the halt in fire during the agreed period.
During the period, the first part is that Hamas will release 10 live captives and 18 others already dead in captivity from thee list of 58 to be released between day 1-7. But five living and nine dead with be released on day one, while five others alive and 9 dead will be released on day 7.
After this, aid will be allowed to flow into the Gaza Strip. All military offensive will cease as soon as the agreement goes into force there will be limited air surveillance during the day and night.
Negotiations will however be ongoing during this period. Also included in the deal is that in return for 10 living captives, the Israelis will release 125 Palestinian prisoners on life sentence.
However, in exchange for the 18 dead captives, the Israelis will release 180 deceased Palestinians.
After this, the remaining captives are to be released by Hamas based on agreement reached during negotiations.
Guarantors of the ceasefire are the United States, Egypt, Qatar, while President Trump will personally announce the ceasefire and ensure that there is good faith in implementation.
The agreement is expected to lead to permanent ceasefire in Gaza
