ST PETER-ORDING – Holidaymakers on the North Sea and Baltic Sea have to pay resort fees for clean beaches and toilets. One North Sea resort will increase the fee in 2025 – by 33 per cent.

Holidaymakers in coastal resorts on the North Sea and Baltic Sea will have to dig deeper into their wallets next year in some places: In St. Peter-Ording (Nordfriesland district), holidaymakers will pay four euros in the high season (15 May to 30 September) instead of the previous three euros.

‘The guest contribution has remained unchanged for many years and was last increased slightly in 2007,’ said Katharina Schirmbeck, Tourism Director of St. Peter-Ording. She cites rising costs as one of the reasons for the move.

Due to the increase in the visitor’s tax, St. Peter-Ording is now slightly more expensive than Sylt – which is around 130 kilometres further north. In the municipality of Sylt, which also includes Westerland and Rantum, holidaymakers aged 18 and over pay 3.90 euros per day during the high season.

This will remain the same next year, a spokeswoman for the island administration on Sylt told the German Press Agency. Prices vary on the North Sea and Baltic Sea

The amount of the visitor’s tax in the recognised tourist resorts on the North and Baltic Seas varies. The fees are regularly reviewed and sometimes increased. While some resorts raise the rates in 2025, they remain the same in others.

On Heligoland (Pinneberg district) and on the island of Usedom (in the Pomeranian Bay), it is still unclear how high the fees will be next year. The money will be used for clean toilets, lifeguards, children’s activities and concerts, among other things.
