BALOCHISTAN – Unknown gunmen late Sunday evening struck, killing 23 passengers after stopping their vehicle on the highway, Southwest Pakistan.
According to a Pakistani official, all the deceased were killed both a passenger bus and cargo trucks.
The gunmen according to the official blocked the road in the restive Balochistan province on Sunday evening, pulled passengers from the vehicles and shot them after checking their identity cards, security official Ayub Achakzai told Reuters.
The Balochistan Liberation Army said in a statement that gunmen targeted soldiers travelling in civilian clothes adding that they were shot after checking their identities.
The interior ministry said the dead were innocent civilians.
The office of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed in a statement to retaliate and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
