PM of Bangladesh resigns, flees to India

BANGLASESH – The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheik Hasina has resigned and fled to India.
She resigned following weeks of protests, leading to destruction of properties and deaths of over 200 people.
Hundreds of demonstrators are said to have taken over the official residence of the fleeing Prime Minister.
Bangladesh Army Commander, General Waker Uz-zaman said in a televised broadcast that talks are ongoing to form an interim government after the resignation of Hasina.
He said the army will conduct an investigation into all the killings that occurred over the past weeks.
“We confirm Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and call on citizens to trust the army and stop the violence”, the army said.
The General added that he will meet the president of the country to discuss the formation of the interim government.
