WASHINGTON – United States Congressman Joaquin Castro, one of the lawmakers who shunned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s joint address in Congress, has said that opportunity to address a joint session is an honour that should be reserved for the most distinguished world leaders and not the type of Netanyahu.
According to him, Benjamin Netanyahu should be standing in front of a criminal tribunal, not the U.S Congress.
According to him, over the past nine months, Benjamin Netanyahu has prosecuted Israel’s war in Gaza with contempt for human life.
“Under his command, Israeli troops have bombed hospitals, ambulances and schools, killing nearly 40,000 people, most of whom are civilians and leaving millions homeless.
“He has failed to prioritise the rescue of hostages and has pursued mass destruction of Palestinian society instead of accountability for the Hamas terrorists, who carried out the October 7 attacks”.
According to him, Benjamin Netanyahu clearly cares about nothing but his own political survival.
“I have no confidence that he is willing or able to negotiate the ceasefire and hostage deal that Israelis and Palestinians desperately needs”, the Congressman said.
Another Congressman, Elizabeth Warren said nearly 300 days, Netanyahu has failed to bring the hostages home, and he has created a humanitarian catastrophe, adding this war must end.
She argued that Netanyahu’s government has prevented lifesaving aid from entering Gaza, starving Innocent civilians.
“His indiscriminate bombing campaign has killed nearly 40,000 Palestinians.
“We need an immediate ceasefire, the return of hostages and massive amount of humanitarian aid and we need to give both sides a hard shove towards the negotiating table to work out a two state solution for a lasting peace”.
