Mohammed Mokhber assumes role as Acting President of Iran

TEHRAN – The Supreme Leader Iran, Ayotollah Ali Khamenei has named Mohammed Mokhber, the First Vice President of Iran as President following the death of Ebrahimi Raisi on Sunday.
Raisi died in the mountainous region in Iran during official duty in Iran. He died with the foreign minister and others in the crash.
Mokhber will now lead Iran until an election is held to elect a new president for Iran.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also appointed top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani as acting foreign minister.
“According to Article 131 of the constitution, Mr [Mohammed] Mokhber assumes the role of managing the executive branch and is obligated, together with the heads of the legislative and judiciary branches, to arrange for the election of a new president within a maximum of fifty days,” Khamenei said on X.
