LAGOS, Nigeria – The United States of America has imposed visa ban on two major obas in Lagos over the role they played in the violence that occurred during the 2023 general election.
Many were killed and maimed during the election following the stoking of tribal sentiments.
The two affected Obas are the Oba of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, a former Commissioner in Lagos State and former Aide De Camp, ADC, to President Tinubu, and Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi who was also a Senior Special Assistant to Tinubu.
According to Jackson Ude, the two Obas got a wind of the ban when they applied to travel to the United States.
“They were denied visas”, Ude said on X, adding that a letter to this effect has been conveyed to them.
Both of the monarchs are said to have multiple properties in the United States.
