Missing engines stall production at Volkswagen
HANOVER – Car Making giant Volkswagen is to scale back production at VW Commercial Vehicles in Hanover due to missing engine parts from Slovenia following catastrophic flooding.
“Based on the current situation, we have to prepare for the fact that here in Hanover, from mid-September for several weeks, we won’t be able to produce any combustion engine vehicles,” a spokesperson said in Hanover on Sunday.
The reason for this is the flooding in Slovenia, which has affected a supplier of engine parts. According to the company, this has resulted in a shortage of gears for the powertrain of combustion engines.
The production of the classic T6.1 transporter, which has accounted for the majority of production so far, will come to a complete halt, while the T7 Multivan will only be produced as a plug-in hybrid. The electric bus ID. Buzz is not affected.
The company had already announced that other locations would also experience disruptions.
In Portugal, VW announced on Thursday that assembly in Palmela near Lisbon would be completely halted for two months starting on September 11, affecting the SUV T-Roc.
